CELPIP Preparation Online
Targeted preparation for the CELPIP-General exam with a certified teacher. Achieve the CLB score you need for Canadian immigration, citizenship, or professional goals.
Your Path to CELPIP Success
The CELPIP-General test is one of two English language tests accepted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence and citizenship applications. Designed entirely around Canadian English, CELPIP tests your ability to communicate in real Canadian workplace, community, and daily life situations.
What makes CELPIP unique is that it is fully computer-based — including the Speaking section, where you record your responses into a headset rather than speaking with a live examiner. This means your preparation should include getting comfortable with the digital format alongside building your language skills.
Whether you are preparing for Express Entry, a Provincial Nominee Program, or Canadian citizenship, targeted preparation makes a real difference. My approach focuses on understanding the specific demands of each CELPIP component, building the vocabulary and grammar you need, and practising under realistic timed conditions.
The Four CELPIP Components
CELPIP-General tests four language skills. Each component has a unique format that requires specific strategies:
Listening
47-55 min, 6 parts
- Practice with Canadian English accents
- Learn to read ahead during preparation time
- Track multiple speakers in discussions
- Listen for corrections and final decisions
Reading
55-60 min, 4 parts
- Master email tone and purpose analysis
- Combine diagram and text information
- Skim long texts before reading questions
- Compare viewpoints in dual-passage tasks
Writing
53-60 min, 2 tasks
- Identify the correct tone immediately
- Address every point in the prompt
- Structure emails and opinions clearly
- Build vocabulary for Canadian contexts
Speaking
15-20 min, 8 tasks
- Fill your speaking time completely
- Use preparation time to plan key points
- Practice recording with a headset
- Match tone to each task type
How Our CELPIP Preparation Works
Every student's CELPIP journey is different. Some need to focus on the timed writing tasks, others on the computer-based speaking format. Our preparation adapts to your specific goals:
- Diagnostic Assessment. We start with a practice test to identify your current CLB level in each component. This reveals exactly where focused study will have the biggest impact on your overall score.
- Customized Study Plan. Based on your diagnostic results, target CLB score, and timeline, I create a preparation plan that prioritizes your weakest components while maintaining your strengths.
- Component-Specific Training. Each lesson targets the skills and strategies for specific CELPIP tasks. We use realistic practice materials and work under timed conditions from day one.
- Writing and Speaking Feedback. For productive skills, I provide detailed feedback using CELPIP scoring criteria. You will know exactly what to adjust to reach your target CLB level.
- Full Practice Tests. Before your test date, we complete full-length practice tests under timed conditions on a computer — exactly like the real exam. This builds stamina and confidence.
CELPIP vs. IELTS: Which Should You Choose?
Both CELPIP and IELTS General Training are accepted for Canadian immigration. The best choice depends on your personal strengths and preferences:
| Choose CELPIP if you... | Choose IELTS if you... |
|---|---|
| Prefer typing over handwriting | Prefer writing by hand |
| Feel more comfortable recording on a computer | Prefer speaking with a real person |
| Are already in Canada and familiar with Canadian English | Are comfortable with multiple English accents |
| Need results quickly (4-5 days) | Can wait longer for results (13 days) |
| Only need results for Canadian purposes | May need results accepted internationally |
Not sure which test is right for you? Book a consultation lesson and we can discuss your situation and help you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the CELPIP test?
CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) is a fully computer-based English test designed specifically for Canadian immigration and citizenship. It is accepted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as proof of English proficiency for permanent residence applications, citizenship, and some professional designations. The test uses Canadian English exclusively — Canadian accents, workplace scenarios, and cultural references.
How is CELPIP different from IELTS?
The main differences are: CELPIP is fully computer-based (including Speaking, which is recorded on a computer rather than with a live examiner), uses only Canadian English accents, and reports scores as CLB levels (1-12) instead of band scores (0-9). CELPIP also tends to deliver results faster (4-5 business days vs. 13 days for IELTS). Both tests are accepted for Canadian immigration — the best choice depends on your preferences and strengths.
What CELPIP score do I need for Express Entry?
For the Federal Skilled Workers program under Express Entry, you need a minimum of CLB 7 in all four components (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking). However, higher scores earn more Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. A CLB 9 in each component gives you the maximum language points. For Canadian citizenship, you need only CLB 4 in Listening and Speaking (you can take the CELPIP-General LS test for this).
How long should I prepare for CELPIP?
Preparation time depends on your current English level and target score. If your English is already at an intermediate-advanced level (B2), 4-6 weeks of focused study is typically sufficient for CLB 7. If you need CLB 9+, plan for 2-3 months. If you are at an intermediate level (B1), you may need 3-6 months to build both your general English skills and test-specific strategies. Consistent daily practice of 1-2 hours is more effective than occasional long sessions.
Is the CELPIP Speaking section really on a computer?
Yes, the entire CELPIP test is computer-based, including Speaking. You wear a headset with a microphone and record your responses. There is no live examiner in the room. Many test-takers find this less stressful than a face-to-face interview, while others prefer human interaction. Our preparation program includes practice recording responses on a computer so you feel comfortable with the format on test day.
Can I prepare for CELPIP online?
Absolutely. Online preparation is highly effective for CELPIP, especially since the test itself is computer-based. Working with an online tutor who understands the CELPIP format means you can get targeted feedback on your Writing and Speaking, practice under timed conditions, and build familiarity with the computer-based format. Many of our students achieve CLB 7-9 through online preparation alone.
